Hello guys, as per my previous post I promise to share about few places of North-East, India that really touch my heart. So, in this post I will tell you all about the Spectacular Meghalaya.

About Meghalaya: This is one of the most popular and liked north eastern state that shares boundary with Assam and Bangladesh in the southern part. The population of the hill station is less as compared to the other north eastern states. Meghalaya is home to three major tribal populations - Khasis, Garos and Jaintias (in order of population). Most of the part of Meghalaya witness heavy rainfall during the monsoon. You may also experience unexpected rain during your way to the fascinating Meghalaya.

Must visit:  Meghalaya is a travel hub that has many gems to offer you to experience the beauty of nature and adventure. Most of the travel spot is still hidden form the traveler and it quit difficult to reach the exact location. Some of the popular tourist attraction that traveler ususally used to visit is in below:
1. Shillong Peak.
2. Elephanta Falls.
3. Wards Lake.

8. South Garo Hills, Pitcher Plant sanctuary, Siju Caves.
9. Balpakram National Park.
10. Root Bridge.
11. Krangsuri, West Jaintia Hills ( My Personal Favorite).

From all the above destination, my favorite destination were:

1. Umiam Lake, that consider one of the most clean water lake in North-East and people can clearly see the bottom of the lake.

2.  Living root bridges are a form of tree shaping common in the southern part of the Northeast Indian state of Meghalaya. They are handmade from the aerial roots of Rubber Trees (Ficus elastica) by the Khasi and Jaintia peoples.

3.  Cherrapunji : This is the most beautiful place in Meghalaya along with that this place receives the highest rainfall in India as per Govt. reports. There are many view point in cherrapunji with elevation of around 4690 ft. as per google record.

4. Krangsuri, West jaintia Hills: The most remote and wonderful and my personal favorite place with a clean water waterfall. I recommend you to bring your personal vehicle to this place, or rented vehicle bike would be better. You cannot expect to have public transport. I will write another separate blog specially covering Krangsuri in upcoming days.

Connectivity:  Any Meghalaya excursion should start from Shillong or Guwahati for convenience. Local Non-AC buses and share Sumos and cars connect several parts of Meghalaya and other destinations of North East. But the most popular way to enjoy the mesmerizing view along with the expedition is traveling by bike in the region. It will quit risky to drive bike on the U shape road. But it also have the ability to experiencing you the immense pleasure.  I have traveled Meghalaya with my friends by bike. And it was the most wonderful journey I have ever had. It really touched my soul.
Language: Garo, Khasi & Jaintia are the major languages spoken in addition to English. English is spoken all over the state in all urban areas. And if you know hindi you can also manage to survive. Because Meghalayan peoples are very helpful and their innocent behavior make you fall in love with the locals.
Food: Rice is the staple food and different varieties from the red rice to the sticky glutinous rice are grown and eaten in Meghalaya. The red rice from the Sung Valley is known to be particularly delicious. Pork in every form is enjoyed by all three communities. The Khasi and Jaintia cuisine are similar and use black sesame seeds to add a distinctive taste to the pork and other dishes. A cold salad of shredded pork with onions and ginger is also very popular.

Few heartwarming clicks from Meghalaya……..

I hope my article will help those people who wish to visit Meghalaya to enjoy the amazing view of the nature.
